Living in this wild and heartbreakingly beautiful world

We live in dramatic times. Most of the news is adrenaline-provoking and packed with (urgent!) calls to action. Yes, we must protect our mama Earth. Yes, we must stand together and strong and in union with and for our wild lands, as allies with Native peoples and the underrepresented, and as voices of sanity in a world out of balance!

But—big but!—love of nature is not about fighting.

Love of nature is about being,

Breathing,

Loving,

ancestorsBeing breathed, being loved. Being held, being breathed, being connected, breathing in union with all that is and all that will every be.

Wise naturalist Robert Pyle famously said, “What is the extinction of a condor to a child who has never seen a wren?” Similarly, what is the activist’s cause if she does not also know the ecstasy of natural beauty, wonder, and awe?

We protect what we love. We love what we know. One of the kindest and most protective things you can do for the Earth is to know your nature, your own sacred nature. And, from that place, love the wide, wild world around you. 💚

In these times, it’s ok—actually, it’s essential!—also to pause, relax, exhale, and say, “Yes!!!” to nature, and, in the words of the luminous Mary Oliver, to “let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.”

These posts (below) are intended as gateways of connection for you and little invitations too . . . all in support of your deepening relationship with the natural world. Enjoy! 💚
